Men are naturally conscious about their pectoral or chest muscles. Ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger popularized that strong and sculpted look in his prime, the image has never left the minds of most men nowadays. You can't blame them. After all, well-developed chest muscles speak of increased strength and overall physical fitness. Aside from its benefits to health, well-sculpted muscles in men are also aesthetically pleasing and add that boost of confidence to most males. Lean chest muscles generally lend itself to a better fit with clothes, leading to increased levels of self-esteem.

If you want to tone your pecs, you obviously need to exercise your chest muscles-- the pectoralis major and the pectoralis minor. However, this is not the only set of muscles that you need to work on for that toned look. You also need to work on the biceps and triceps muscles located in your upper arms as well. This is because you need your arms to train your chest. Strong arms are essential to successfully carry out your chest toning regimen.

Moreover, if you want to tone your pecs, you need to focus not only on lessening the fats on your chest but on eating right and performing the proper chest exercises. While it's important to keep your body fat levels low, you should still focus on getting enough nutrition so you can give your body the fuel it needs to form the new muscles.

When you perform your chest exercises, make sure that you balance these with upper back workouts so you won't have back pains or postural problems. Furthermore, any chest toning exercises you do should be integrated into an overall workout program. This will ensure that your body remains balanced.

One exercise that can tone your pecs and exercise your triceps muscles as well is the dumbbell press. To do this correctly, hold a dumbbell in each hand. Then, lie on your back on a bench, keeping the dumbbells at ear level. Gradually push the dumbbells upwards to the maximum stretch without locking them out before lowering them back again.

Dumbbell flyes are also good for developing the pectoral muscles. With your feet flat on the floor, lie with your back on a bench holding a dumbbell in each of your hand. Keeping your palms together, hold the dumbbells in a vertical position above your chest. Gradually open your arms and lower the weights to shoulder level before returning to the beginning position and repeating the motion.

Press ups are also effective to tone your pecs. With your face on the floor, position your palms down wider than shoulder width apart. Put your weight on your knees if you are still a beginner in this exercise. Place your weight on your toes if you want a more intense exercise. Gradually push your body off the floor by straightening your arms. Make sure that your body is straight as you do the exercise. Lower to starting position. Repeat for as many repetitions as you can for that sculpted look.
