Many internet marketers don't appreciate the differences between mini sites and authority sites in terms of strategies and results. Many internet marketing newbies have trouble deciding which kind of site to focus on. Actually, there are a number of things to think about as well as to consider, as it concerns search engine algorithms and personality (Google).

The bottom line, though, is it all depends on a person's overall goal, strategy, and individual preferences. What follows is a comparison of mini sites and authority sites, which can help anybody who's trying to choose between the two.

It's commonly believed that mini sites have the advantage of bringing you profits in a shorter period of time. There is something to this point of view, to be sure. It might be a good idea, however, to balance out your shorter and longer term goals when you plan your strategy. One approach would be to break down a niche into many micro niches, based on careful keyword research. You could then put up a dozen or more mini sites, each based on one of these micro niches. If you chose your keywords well, you could get high rankings for most of them. It's fairly plain, however, that Google is not encouraging people to use this method.

It is somewhat obvious that an authority site will demand much more work, time, and commitment than the smaller mini site. Your own nature, as well as your other commitments will determine how you react to this difference. Mini sites can be attractive to people with short attention spans and who like a change of pace. When you know how to build mini sites, or if you use automated tools, you can create a new one daily. Building an authority site, however, can be a long process. One way to look at it, however, is like many different mini sites put together.

When you have an authority site, you'll want to frequently add fresh content, whereas with mini sites you may just want to keep making new ones.

Far more doors will be open with a highly ranked authority site than any minisite will ever have. You will see a lot of high ranking authority sites selling space for third party ads. There are different variables that will determine how profitably you can use that model. Higher competitive markets and traffic can mean a decent monthly revenue from selling ad space for banners, etc. You are not limited to selling banner space, and there is much more you can do. The choice between creating a mini site or building an authority site is one that is being influenced by Google. Mini sites still offer plenty of benefits, but you may find it a little more time consuming trying to drive traffic to them. Mini sites definitely have their place within any well thought-out marketing plan. However, there are plenty more benefits to be had for creating a larger site as far as organic traffic goes.
