Old Bridge over a Beautiful Stream is the Sabian Symbol for the 28th degree of Sagittarius. Here it is described using the 7 Words System - a way of understanding the complexity of human interactions that can be applied to all aspects of self-awareness and relationship, so that you quickly change your perspectives and get to a deep sense of what to do to improve things.
Have you sometimes reflected that your zodiac sign, whereas it may say a great deal, cannot really characterize you exactly? Undeniably not with an astonishing significance that makes every single thing in your life seem almost poles apart from what it was before. You may be interested to check out these Sabian Symbols – they may cause you to change your thinking! The Sabian approach certainly is very distinctive.
What exactly are Sabian Symbols? The Sabian Symbols are images – one for each degree of the zodiac – that have been clairvoyantly discovered by an exceptional person, Elsie Wheeler, and explained by an astrologer, Dr Marc Edmund Jones. Each one of them presents a suggestion about the principal significance of that point, which will probably release some very useful and thought-provoking points of view that you may find quite interesting.
It works even if it’s not your particular degree – and yet a lot better if it is. It’s best to allow yourself time to do it slowly, like a meditation. Let each of the short paragraphs sink in slowly and try to feel what it means, as well as using the mind…or just sit with the images for a while and use your power of imagination to create some playful stories around it. Having come to some new realizations about the essence of who you are, there is another stage you can adopt – to decide to be different. You can influence a lot more of your circumstances than you usually do when you engage fully with the deepest part of your unique identity, by taking on the qualities indicated by your Sabian symbol.
Also if you are clearer about who you are, then you become a lot more certain about what you want out of life. You can set your goals according to an overall vision of the bigger picture, and that itself leads to a much greater chance of success. It helps with focus so that you keep your attention fixed on the required outcome.
Reading your own Sabian Symbol is a bit like getting a brother or sister to speak honestly about you. They know you well, with all your dark bits and your light, and although they love you, they’ll tell you the hard truth! It can be difficult to hear, yet useful for those who are trying to become better people. It may be necessary to reread it a few times and think deeply about what is actually being said.
There is so much we could do with our lives! Opportunities are endless and very diverse, each day bringing little clues and teases to nudge us toward a little more unfolding of potential. Saying No to this and Yes to that surely requires us to trust our feelings and surrender to the inevitable – that, come what may, we all end up being who we are: nothing more, nothing less.
Old things, old ways and old ideas can be nothing more than outworn evidence of a total lack of initiative, or an inner lack of vitality or courage. Old isn’t necessarily good.
And yet, delightfully, old structures can also speak of the enduring stability of the world at large, hinting at an eternal sense of security and well-being that places us in the present moment, yet with firm and ancient worldly roots.
Humanity has built objects of stone and wood that last for generations and have seen the rise and fall of empires, fashions and waves of historical change. We come to depend more for our sense of rightness on what is built by masons than what is built by governments and culture.
Each person can attend to their own requirements by expressing their needs in form and function, and such objects that are thus made tend to last, and take on a special worth within our sense of goodness and beauty.
In turn, nature has a way of integrating the best of these to enhance her already perfect beauty. Does the chipped, moss-clad, discoloured bridge diminish the scene? It does not; it seems to draw better attention to the loveliness of the stream it spans.
Each person can blend and integrate each other person – as do stream and bridge, which are in natural harmony, each enhancing the other’s essential features. All needs and ideals fit together to serve the eternal pattern, though only genius can see this.
What falls away, as ephemeral as dust upon the wind, is what does not serve and take its place usefully into this universal pattern of cosmic alignment.
