How to Stay Cool Calm and Collected When Faced With Unfamiliar Territory

There are certain situations in everyone's life in which you feel uncomfortable or ill-at-ease. These circumstances will be different for every individual.

A person who has grown up in a circus and learned to walk the high wire is highly unlikely to be afraid of heights or uncomfortable climbing a ladder. Someone who was brought up in a large and noisy environment is unlikely to be put off by either generalized noise or crowded places. I could provide many more examples but I am sure you get my drift; your areas of comfort or discomfort will depend on the circumstances and situations which you have been exposed to over the years.

The things which you are familiar with as you are growing up set a pattern for the things which you become more instinctively comfortable with in later life. This usually works in our favor, but if you have been exposed to unusual circumstances then your instinctive feelings about what is right or wrong, frightening or comfortable, may be a little "topsy-turvy" and thus a little "re-conditioning" could be required.

We each have our own comfort zones which have been created through our life experiences. We will all encounter situations where we know it would be advantageous to step outside those prison-like walls; sometimes we have to face our fears and find a way to conquer them. Either we do this or end up a victim of our own fears for the rest of our lives.

Much of the time our greatest challenge lies in conquering our own emotional reaction; we need to know how to soothe our emotions and remain cool, calm and collected. Unless we know how to do this our reactions will be "over-heated" and illogical. Emotions and logic do not always go hand in hand; they are in fact more akin to oil and water!

The process of calming oneself involves the ability to step back from ones emotions and see things in a logical light. The first step lies in recognizing when you feel your emotions becoming "heated"; simply the acknowledgement of this happening allows you to do something about it. The next step is knowing how to cool your emotions and thereby step back from the circumstances in which you find yourself.

You can do this easily by taking a few deep breaths and focusing on thoughts which are calm and soothing. Self hypnosis is extremely useful as it teaches you how to relax very quickly. Once relaxed, your emotions have been released and you are in a position to think logically about whatever it is that had previously disturbed you.

When thinking logically you will discover that there are many different perspectives which you may choose to apply to each set of circumstances. Your levels of self confidence will also have their impact. The more confident you feel in yourself the more positive opportunities and possibilities you will allow yourself to contemplate. The less confidence you have the more restricted your choices will appear to be.

The ability to remain cool, calm and collected relies on both one's own levels of confidence and your ability to soothe your emotions and employ your logical mind. Hypnosis can prove to be a great asset in both of these areas.
