When we think of vacations, we usually have images of relaxation in mind. Rarely do we equate vacations with workouts or anything even remotely connected to exercise. However, taking a vacation in or out of the country is a great way to stay fit and revive your flagging enthusiasm for exercise. Fitness vacations are all about seeing new places, experiencing new things and moving like you've never moved before.

Exploring on Foot

Any trip to a new place will always involve some degree of walking. There are places, however, that naturally allow you to walk to explore the city centers or rural towns. Get some travel guides and map out your walking plan before you go so you have a pretty good idea of where you are going. There are cities that have great options for hiking or trekking. Aside from the fitness benefit, you also get a healthy dose of culture and history in your explorations. For a more intense walking regimen, go on your walks with a fully-loaded backpack. Not only is it a great cardiovascular workout, it also develops leg strength and increases bone density that protects against osteoporosis.

Golf Fitness Vacations

Golf courses all over the United States and abroad offer golf packages where you can combine a round or two of golf with relaxation. This is also a great way for you to learn the game as many golf courses offer golf instruction as well. Golf is great for developing flexibility and balance.

Skiing Fitness Vacations

If you're looking for a great way to increase stamina, endurance and leg strength, go on a skiing trip. Nothing beats the winter blues more than an exciting ride up and down the slopes. If your level of expertise is really way up there in this sport, try cross-country skiing for a more intense workout.

Beach Fitness Vacations

There are so many options for you to exercise while you're on the beach. You can go swimming, surfing, parasailing, snorkeling or if you are up to it scuba diving. Many resorts offer beginner classes on surfing, parasailing and scuba-diving.

Horse Riding Vacation

If you've never tried riding on a horse before, you'll be surprised at how much power, endurance and energy you need to control an equine. Contrary to what you may think, riding a horse requires that you have core stability and muscular strength to be able to control this amazing animal.

Wellness Vacations

Many mountain resorts all over the world offer wellness packages that offer vacationers detoxification, Yoga and meditation. Aside from the stress relief that these offer, these resort locations are set amidst the energizing fold of nature, giving you the chance to truly rejuvenate and reenergize from the stresses of city life.

Gone are the days when a vacation meant a way to do nothing. It may seem ironic but a true vacation is one that combines fitness with the chance to rest and relax. Make your vacation a way to experience the best of both worlds so that when you go back to the hustle-and-bustle of everyday, you are fitter, healthier and able to keep up with the challenges it brings.
