You have finally made a decision to invest in a new piano. However, you’re not quite sure what type of piano to purchase. Should you purchase an expensive piano or an affordable piano? This can be a tough decision to make, especially if you’re unsure of the differences between the two.
Some people believe there are no differences. They believe you’re just paying for the brand name. Contrary to popular belief, there are differences that go beyond the name of a piano.
Here are a few differences…
Affordable pianos tend to have less expensive wood material placed below the veneer. Another feature of a less expensive piano is that it will have high tension stringing scales and synthetic materials within the piano action.
Fine pianos like the Steinway or a Bosendorfer have wool cloth within the piano actions. It also has lower tension stringing scales and it has hardwood below the cabinet veneer.
Obviously, the sound quality of a fine piano is superior. For example, when comparing an upright to a grand piano, you will notice that the grand piano has a crisp and clear sound. That’s because it contains more strings and the strings are much longer. The grand piano also has a larger sound-board. This is one of the reasons why people are willing to invest more money in a grand piano.
Fine pianos are also more expensive because the builders pay special attention to detail. They also take their time when building a piano. As a result, the piano has longevity and it has excellent sound quality.
If you’re on a budget and you desire to have a fine piano, you can invest in a pre owned piano in Darien, CT. Companies like Al Oliver & Son Piano sell quality pre owned pianos at reasonable rates. So, you don’t have to break the bank to have a quality piano.
Shopping for a piano is an enjoyable experience. Just make sure you take the time out to research and compare the various piano brands available. More importantly, take the time out to get a good feel for the piano you want to purchase. This will help you decide on the best piano to buy.
