The USDA’s Food Pyramid is a well thought one. The foods mentioned in it are the ones every kid needs to have to have a healthier future. The food pyramid is built on five food groups among which fruits and vegetables are the most important ones. Therefore, in this context, it can be said that fruits and vegetables are highly important for the proper growth of a child. However, not all fruits and vegetables are suitable for every kid. So, it is a must for parents to make sure their kids are eating enough vegetables and fruits.
Vitamins in Vegetables and Fruits:
Contrary to the popular belief, children don’t need a lot large dosages of vitamins. They need smaller dosages for their growth. Most parents take up vitamin supplements for their kids which aren’t really necessary. If you are giving enough vegetables and fruits to your kids to satisfy his or her body requirements then you don’t need any supplements. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that it’s not necessary for kids to take supplements. In fact, it strongly talks against it. Supplements should only be taken in exceptional situations where children are suffering from a disorder or a deficiency.
Fibers:
Even though kids don’t need too much fiber, some of it is still required. As we all know, fibers are required to keep the digestive system healthy which is the workstation in our body. If the digestive is not healthy, you can’t expect other nutrients to be processed fully. Fibers also are very important for softening the stool, reducing constipation, and digesting food properly. Fibers are present in fruits and vegetables and when eaten on a starving stomach, these fibers will make sure your kid’s tummy is full.
Dosages:
It is best to feed your child with fruits after breakfast or lunch. Basically, they can have fruits during any time of the day. However, the reason it is important to give them fruits in the morning is to make sure they get that much required energy boost up. As for vegetables, they can be given for lunch and for dinner. For lunch, any meal that has vegetables and meat is good to go. However, for dinner, it is best to avoid meat and keep it till vegetables only. Meat in dinner can cause bloating issues in children. So, to avoid the situation, make sure the dinner you serve is not too heavy for the child.
