A few of us are fortunate and we acquire a beginners guitar as a present for Christmas or birthday, or maybe a nice relative decided to offer you one of his/hers guitars as a gift. But what about us? The ones that wish to learn to play guitar, yet we do not even have one. How do you choose a right guitar that is perfect for you?
Before choosing a guitar you need to bear in mind a few things.
What kind of music will you be playing?
Yes. It does matter what kind of music you're going to play. Different guitars work better for different genres of music. What I mean is this, are you into Country, Classical, Rock or Jazz. Each genre uses unique playing method and specific guitars accommodate those requirements better than others. Doesn’t mean that one guitar is better than the other. Just means that one is better suited for certain type of music, that’s all.
How serious are you about trying to learn guitar?
This is another critical factor to think about. How passionate are you about trying to learn guitar? Is it your dream to develop into a distinguished guitar player or do you just want to learn a couple of songs? Or maybe you’re not still sure about how much you would like guitar and wanted to give it a try to see how it goes?
If you are not serious about learning guitar I would not advise you to invest much money in a guitar. Just buy a very basic cheap beginning guitar to see if you enjoy playing it. Or perhaps it's been your lifelong dream to play the guitar and you are really serious about it? It might be a good idea for you to invest in a premium beginning guitar. They are usually a lot easier to play, do not go out of tune as often and can last you a lifetime.
Are you a complete beginner or do you know how to play most of the chords?
Did you know that a large amount of people quit within the first two weeks? Why? While there are loads of reasons, like not having enough time for practice, boredom, lack of self-discipline, and so on… Many quit because it is very difficult physically to learn guitar in the very beginning. Your fingers hurt and it’s hard to make a nice sound to come out, so some believe that this is how it’s gonna be forever. If you are just a newbie it’s best to get a classical guitar. Why? Because, it uses nylon guitar strings instead of metal as the rest of guitars. Nylon strings are a lot easier to play and while they still hurt in the beginning they do not hurt as much as metal strings. This does not relate to electric guitars. Actually if you want to learn on an electric guitar you’re in luck. Electric guitars are easiest to learn on, so good for you!
Trying to learn guitar may seem hard at first, but when you have the correct guitar it will make your practice a whole lot easier. Just keep these three points in mind while selecting a guitar and you should manage to choose the very best guitar for yourself.
