There are seven different types of solar power system that can be set up in homes and industries today. If you are wondering how the solar power can be used to cover for our electricity needs, it is best to know about the different systems.
• Day Use Photovoltaic Solar Power System: This system entails the use of solar panels which are directly connected to the appliances. It does not have inverters. Since the panels produce direct current or DC, the appliance that it will power should work on DC too. AC or alternate current appliances would break down if directly connected to this kind of system.
• Direct Current Photovoltaic Solar Power System with Batteries: The batteries are utilized so that energy can be stored in it. The sun hits the array of solar panels and the energy is directed to the batteries. When the sun is no longer shining, there will still be available energy for consumption. Aside from the batteries, the system also includes a charge controller but it does not have an inverter too.
• Photovoltaic Solar Power System for Battery Charger: These are devices which has solar panels solely for the purpose of charging the battery which will power up a particular device or machine. The energy produced and utilized in this system is also direct current because of the absence of an inverter
• DC Photovoltaic Solar Power System for AC and DC loads: This is commonly used for homes. It involves the use of an inverter so that most of the appliances at home can use the electricity that this system produces. Usually, this system is designed to work independently. So, it is not connected to the main power grid.
• Hybrid Photovoltaic Solar Power System: The usual reason why this system is used is because it can provide alternative electricity for emergencies. So, there is still an existing power source that does not rely on the sun’s energy. When this fails, the solar energy will come into play.
• Grid Connected Photovoltaic Solar Power Without Batteries: This is considered as the most simple among all options. This is best for homes too because the connection to the main power grid is still maintained. Net metering can occur in this type of system. Since it does not involve the use of batteries, the surplus electricity that will be produced by the solar panels will go to the main power grid. The meter will run in reverse as the excess solar electricity goes to the grid. When the time comes that you will be utilizing that energy, the meter will run on its normal pace. In case you never had the need to use the electricity, the credit will be reflected in your account.
• Grid Connected Photovoltaic Solar Power With Batteries: This is a system wherein you will have the option to either use the electricity from the main power grid or solar power. If in case you are not using the energy from the solar panels, it can be stored in the batteries for future use.
With the different systems that are available, you can surely have a solar energy system in your home or commercial establishment that will provide sufficient electricity that can be match according to your needs and preferences.
