A wedding centerpiece is a great way to express your individual style and give your wedding something unique for your guests to remember. Wedding centerpieces can be traditional, extravagant, simple, romantic and modern; your choices are only limited by your own imagination.
Candles
Instead of using flowers you can place candles at the center of your tables. Romance can be created with floating candles surrounded by rose petals. White is a popular wedding candle color, but you don't have to limit yourself to it. If you plan to have a Christmas or Valentine's Day wedding consider red candles to fit in with the holiday. Candle holders are also something that can make a candle centerpiece unique. Silver, white, glass and pewter in different shapes to hold different types of candles make any table look elegant. You can use a holder in the shape of a heart to express your love or something that shows off a claddagh symbol, representing your union and Celtic heritage.
Simple
You can either purchase ready made simple wedding centerpieces or make your own. A winter wedding would suit small glass candle holders with snowflake patterns. You can buy the holders and place tea light candles in them for a snowy glow. Another cute idea is using a small flower pot. You can paint it in your wedding colors and add a special message to it. Fill the flower pot with a simple flower or goodies that your guests can take with them as a memento such as, chocolate shaped hearts and flowers. Flower tube vases make pretty, simple and elegant table focal points when you place two or three of your favorite flowers inside.
Unique
A unique wedding centerpiece is where you can really let your personality shine. If you love the outdoors, how about a wooden carving in the shape of a tree or a glass vase filled with mini flower bouquets that are also favors. A Great idea suggested by Martha Stuart is ribbon wrapped boxes topped with flowers. She also suggests you can tie this theme in with your favors by placing a small version of the boxes at each seat and have them filled with sweets. If you like western music why not fill some cowboy boot shaped glasses with candy. If you or someone you know is good at crafts a unique look can be created by making origami flowers or items that represent you and placing them in a vase. A gardening or cooking fan might like to place a variety of fresh, potted herbs in the center of the table that can also be favors. Other interesting ideas include a photo of the bride and groom, birdhouses, ice-sculptures and a collection of poems.
With so many centerpiece options picking one for your special day can get overwhelming, but it doesn't have to. Before deciding make a list of how you want your wedding to look and things close to your heart and work from there. Don't be afraid to ask for advice from a professional wedding planner or someone that knows you really well. Most importantly, have fun.
