When you begin to think of moving a family member into a MI assisted living community, the benefits are not always clear. We know that they will make friends and be safer, but the fact is that every resident will benefit differently and it is not always so obvious. The aim of retirement homes in Michigan is to cater these benefits and ensure the comfort of their charges, but it is often best to think of these as tradeoffs. The drastic change in ones living situation usually means losing something so as to gain something else. These are just some of the benefits of moving to one of our retirement communities in Michigan.

  1. Friends. Once we tend to get older and friends and loved ones start to pass away it can become increasingly difficult to visit those that remain. Isolation can be debilitating to those that are dealing with depression, memory loss, or health issues. MI assisted living provides a constant source of friendship and companionship. Even those who say they are loners benefit greatly just from the presence of others around them.

  2. For some the biggest benefit of assisted living is the safety. To those that may be frail, unsteady on their feet, or purblind assisted living is like a safety net. There are attendants around constantly to help residents walk, get up from chairs, or even to simply be a set of eyes. If ever there is an accident you can feel comfortable that residents will not be alone long before receiving whatever help may be necessary.

  3. Seniors living at home often skip housekeeping tasks that they are no longer able to do well, such as vacuuming, cleaning out the refrigerator, or yard work. They may cease upkeep of their home entirely due to any number of reasons. This can be unsafe as well as unsanitary. In an assisted living environment not only will the fridge be cleaned but the residents beds are made too. Trained staff will do all of the upkeep on the environment leaving the residents free to enjoy their time in the Michigan senior living center.

  4. As we get older it can become increasingly difficult to shop for our groceries and prepare healthy and nutritious meals. When you live alone the idea of cooking can become challenging. Most if not all Michigan senior housing centers offer at the very least 1 if not 3 meals a day with a variety of meal times and menu choices. Being well nourished and hydrated lead to good health and happiness. Mealtimes also create a social atmosphere that can help to digestion.

  5. Healthcare. Scheduled hours and the qualifications of nursing staff in retirement homes vary, but every retirement community in Michigan should at least have a nurse. The job of the nurse is very important as they not only give health care but supervise medication, follow up on care and outpatient services, and even coordinate doctor visits.

  6. Family Roles Restored. This may seem insignificant but the very real benefit of allowing a spouse who was acting as a care giver can return to being a husband or a wife. An offspring who has had to neglect the needs of their own family for the needs of their parents can return to it extremely important role of Mother or Father. The planning and stress that come with caring for a spouse or parent is enough to divide a family.

These are a few of the advantages from utilizing a retirement home in Michigan. Sometimes it is simply best to give the care of a loved one to those that are trained to give the needed care. It is not always an easy choice but sometimes it is simply the right one.
