Are you looking for a way to spruce up your bedroom? Whether you're in the market for a new piece of furniture or a complete makeover, here are some easy and fun ways to fix up your bedroom.

Before you begin, take a look at your bedroom and how the furniture is placed. Does it look small and cramped, or large and airy? Sometimes when furniture is placed awkwardly in a room, it creates little flow. If you think you may have this problem, draw out how you think your furniture could look better in the room. Try pushing the bed against a corner for small rooms, or having it stick out as the main centerpiece in master bedrooms.

Next, think about the mood you want to evoke. Your bedroom is the place you nap, where you get dressed, where you unwind. Even though you want it to be peaceful, your personality reflects how you specifically want to decorate it. Do you want your bedroom to look like a European cottage or a tropical paradise? Do you prefer an ultra-modern appearance or a stately impression? If you're not sure, try browsing online or perusing some interior design magazines before you look. This way, you'll have a sense of what you want before plunking down some heavy change for a bed it turns out you don't like.

For those who are on a budget but still want to update the bedroom somewhat, consider switching where your bed is in the room and buying new matching nightstands to sit on either side of the bed. Nightstands create symmetry and balance, as well as provide a handy storage space for important papers or bedside belongings like a glass of water or alarm clock. With a pair of nightstands flanking each side of the bed, you have already updated your bedroom without much effort! If you can afford another piece or two, take a look at a matching dresser. In a small bedroom, dressers organize the tiny closet space you have, while in a larger bedroom, they can elegantly offset the dominance of the bed as a pretty piece of furniture.

If you have the cash to spend and want a total renovation, then consider a new mattress and a platform bed. These contemporary, low-profile beds are sleek in design, with clean lines and an understated elegance. They also don't require a box spring for your mattress, since they support it with wooden slat running across the width of the bed. This urbane, sophisticated look is a perfect starting point; you can match nightstands and dressers to the bed to complete the look. If traditional is more what you're after, take a look at canopy beds or sleigh beds for a subtler change of pace.

No matter how you change up your bedroom, it's certain that it'll feel like a completely different living space. Now go take a nap on your new bed (or rearrange your sock drawer in your new dresser, if you must) and enjoy your revamped, redecorated bedroom!
