Whether we're trying to change ourselves resistance exists. There are many reasons for this. It might be because you do not know HOW to change or a lack of motivation, overwhelm, outside pressure or just plain fear of change. Here are some strategies to help you make the changes you do desire.
It is a hard fact of life, but not everyone will be on board with you. Overcome this obstacle or misunderstanding by ensuring that what you want is clearly understood. Spell out how it will benefit you. If that fails, remember that it is your life and you do not need to convince anyone of the fact that you want to improve your life in the way that is best for you. You may have to leave them in the dust and get on with your own life. That may be tough to do, but there is no one better than yourself to change your life. Only you can change yourself.
If you doubt the fact that the change you want to make is the right one, overcome these fears by ensuring that you know WHY you want to change and what your vision is. List the reasons and the benefits of the change you want to make.
If this fails, make a list of how you see your life if you decide NOT to change. How do you see your life in 1, 2 or 5 years time? Alternatively, imagine that you did make the change and you are 5 years in the future, what does your life look like there?
If you feel overwhelmed the best strategy is to find as much information as possible. Information is power. The more you know, the more solutions become available to you. Make sure you know How you will make the change that meaning; what your PLAN of ACTION is and How the change will affect you.
When you have all the information and have done all you can for now, trust in yourself! Trust that no matter what happens you will be able to handle it. Think of all the things that you have handled in your lifetime up until now. You made it possible. Think about it – what is the very worst thing that could happen if you made a change?
In summary here is a 4 step plan that is essential for you to be successful in any change you make:
You need to DECIDE
You must be BE WILLING
You have to COMMIT
It is imperative to ACT – TAKE ACTION!
