Do grades qualify one to be hired for a job? Do your competent skills promise you a good qualification for a job? This idea often stuck an applicant in doubt whether he/she will pursue applying for a job. How famous is institution the applicant came from? What quality of graduates do they produce?

In a personal observation of the present situation of the employment world today, qualification level is getting high. Excellent Grades in Transcripts of Records, number of years of experience, type of personality, referral level. In my own experience, I get hired because of a good referral person. I was endorsed by an IT manager in our institution for my present job, data encoder, and a member of the system maintenance and programmers. I can say that my grades are just at the average level. In fact, I have failed one major subject during my college years.

I believe that excellent grades and referral level are two big factors that sometimes screwed an applicant. I have observed it always happens in cities where thousands of applicants tries their lack on job hunting. When a company post that 100 applicant will be hired, 50% of those who gets hired are referred by men who are already in position at the company. It always happens, especially in our economy who is in crisis. One always struggles to save himself, to save their families from poverty by giving them reliable job. It doesn’t matter if the applicant is qualified for the job, the newly hired employee will learn to do the job once trained. Is that a good practice? That’s against those who aim excellent grades during their college years.

It’s unfair, spent nights studying, mastering concepts, theories and skills that he/she believes will qualify him/her for a good job. On the other hand, sons and daughters of businessmen are just spending time and money on gimmicks. Then suddenly, when you go together with them someday for a job application, no matter how hard you tried, you won’t get hired, because you are competing with endorsed applicants.

What actions had the employers do to stop this controversy? Majority of the action is still under influence of what we call, "what’s good for us idea!" Executives still stick to where they will benefit, not on what benefit the company will get from the applicant. This can’t be stop! Nor it could be 100% minimized! When company owners soon realize they are already losing because of the type and qualities of employees they have, perhaps that’s the moment that they will act. It will be late already. Skills will soon be realized.
