Today, it’s impossible not to notice humanity’s search for something beyond this world. Even Hollywood's been expressing this new aspiration in the last decade, airing popular TV series such as "Touched by an Angel" and "Medium," which portrays a clairvoyant crime-solver. So what exactly are we searching for that's beyond our world?
If we were to ask the average person what it is he or she seeks, one may say contentment or tranquility, another—perhaps to foresee the future, and still others—inner transformation and self-realization. Yet despite our searching, for many of us the question remains: What is all the searching about, and where does it lead?
According to Kabbalah, a question represents an unfulfilled desire. And since the purpose of Creation is to fulfill all our desires, those of us who have questions are bound to find the answers—or stated differently: We are bound to find the method that will fulfill or satisfy our question about the meaning of life.
In the Introduction to Talmud Eser Sefirot, Item 2, Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag (a.k.a. Baal HaSulam), writes:
Indeed, if we set our hearts to answer but one very famous question, I am certain that all other questions and doubts will vanish from the horizon, and you will look unto their place to find them gone. This indignant question is a question that the whole world asks, namely, "What is the meaning of my life?"
Kabbalists tell us that when a person has reached a certain measure of searching, the question "What is the meaning of my life?" begins to truly surface in him or her. One then naturally finds authentic books of Kabbalah.
Finding authentic Kabbalistic books is the beginning of our advancement toward true fulfillment. Baal HaSulam tells us in the "Introduction to Talmud Eser Sefirot," Item 7, that one who engages in the study of authentic Kabbalah comes to understand "two sides of the coin," or two stages of spiritual development we must go through.
Simply put, one side of the coin is the preparation that's required to understand what true fulfillment really is. It is a preparation for what is needed on the other side of the coin, which is the side of true fulfillment. Hence, when our preparation is completed, we switch from one side of the coin to the other side—the side of true fulfillment.
The method Kabbalah takes a person through these inner, spiritual processes and thereby brings one to the Purpose of life—true fulfillment.
Bnei Baruch is the largest group of Kabbalists in Israel, sharing the wisdom of Kabbalah with the entire world. Study materials in over 25 languages are based on authentic Kabbalah texts that were passed down from generation to generation. www.kabbalah.info
