TransEgo Therapy™ or TET is brief, outcome focused spiritual psychotherapy. Its multi-dimensional and integrated clinical approach offers a new therapeutic model for clients who are open to looking at life from a spiritual perspective.
TransEgo Therapy is rooted in the understanding that we are spiritual beings having human experiences. As long as we remain aware of our spiritual essence, we can direct life effectively and create a meaningful existence. TET facilitates an awakening process in which the person transcends the ego and becomes both observer and observee, viewing him/herself in a spiritual perspective. From that vantage point, the person witnesses the unfolding of an intrinsic healing process-emotional blockages transform, insights emerge, and an altered state of being is reached.
Mary requested TransEgo Therapy to overcome a sense of inadequacy with her job duties. She worked in an ophthalmologist's office and was responsible for taking images of the retina and macula of patients. It seemed to her that she was always running out of time and that possibly her job was at stake. After two sessions, she reported that not only she felt that she was more on target, her boss made a compliment about her timeliness.
TransEgo Therapy is based on the premise that emotional problems, such as sadness and stress, are often related to over-identification with the ego. "Ego" in this context refers to a sense-of-self that is derived from the societal roles we play and the limiting thought-structures we have adopted.
TransEgo Therapy is ideal for spiritually inclined individuals wanting to desensitize specific triggers, work through a loss, a somatic complaint, an episode of sadness or stress, or who would like to get clarity on a specific question. TET may be as brief as three sessions.
A fast growing number of people from many different spiritual traditions, nationalities and cultures acknowledge that the light of Spirit (God, Creator, Yahweh, Brahma, Allah, Universe, Shiva) shines in all of us. TransEgo Therapy is rooted in the non-dualistic awareness that the whole human experience is in essence Spirit. We are all One. All is Spirit.
Yet, our experience of life is very individualized and most of us are convinced that life is far from perfect. This riff is created by our (unconscious) mind. TET is a clinical intervention that helps us regain consciousness, let go of resistance, and fully accept what is. TET helps us realign with the cosmic flow, insights will surface, and we will be carried to a meaningful existence.
TransEgo Therapy does not replace spiritual practice. It is a brief clinical intervention that assists us to move through areas in which we got stuck; areas where we unconsciously are holding on to self-limiting beliefs. After we get "unstuck," our awesome and never-ending spiritual journey will pick up speed again. TET helps us fully embrace life.
John, a sixty-eight-year-old retired entrepreneur, was struggling. During his life he enjoyed all the financial comforts one could wish for, but a gnawing feeling of emptiness had filled most of his days. He called four months after he had moved to an idyllic mountain house in the Mid West. He felt depressed, irritated and restless. He feared that he had made the wrong decision. He had expected that by moving to Montana he would reconnect with nature and find meaning and inspiration. Unfortunately, the opposite happened. "I go crazy here. I'm banging my head against the wall." John went into a meditative state and aligned with his Spiritual Self. After seventy minutes, John came to the realization that he was forcing a certain narrowly-defined outcome. He was able to let go of that, and fully embrace the beauty of where he was. "I deeply know that this is the place where I need to be."
TransEgo Therapy is an experiential clinical intervention that may last between 45 and 75 minutes. During the session, the therapist assists the client in becoming specific about the issue at hand. Subsequently, the client will be invited to go into a meditative state. She raises her vibrational energy and experiences the challenging situation from the position of a more conscious observer. To facilitate this process, the ever-active mind of the client will be given assignments to "get out of the way." From this place of "mindlessness," the client will let go of Self-limiting subconscious thought-structures and allow a natural process of resilience to occur and wisdom to surface. Since the sequence is experiential in nature, the gains are not just on a cognitive level: the shifts are likely to be permanent.
TET is rooted in many therapeutic disciplines, such as brief outcome focused therapy, transpersonal and positive psychology, focusing (Gendlin), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Ericksonian hypnotherapy.
Trans Ego Therapy consists of 5 distinctive phases:
Pre-engagement
The clinician raises his or her own vibrational energy.
Identification
The client identifies the issue and makes it specific.
Spiritual Connection
The client goes into a meditative state and reinforces his/her spiritual awareness.
Processing
From a heightened level of conscious and acceptance, the client realizes that the challenging situation is offering an opportunity for spiritual growth and enrichment. Answers emerge, emotional blockages transform and an altered state of being is reached.
Integration
The client integrates the changes.
Even though the process is highly structured, the therapist remains alert and acknowledges the process of the client. The TET-format helps the client align with a higher consciousness and whenever the client becomes aware of a certain sensation or insight, the therapist allows space for exploration-even if this interrupts the sequence. The format is always secondary to the client's process.
Catherine, a minister of a large Unitarian Universalist church had increasingly more difficulties preaching. In many ways, Catherine was an intelligent, articulate and sensitive woman; yet, on the pulpit she tripped over her words and often lost her train of thought. It was anxiety provoking and it started to affect her sleep. She was deeply embarrassed. After only one TET-session, she noticed a difference, and after the second session she felt a shift. No longer was she constantly monitoring the expression of the people in the church to see if she was "getting through," she was speaking from her heart and enjoyed the flow of energy.
