Anyone in a relationship has likely struggled with the fact, that sooner or later your boyfriend or girlfriend wants some space. You may not see it coming. The relationship seems fine and then out of no where they want more space and the relationship fizzles. When my ex wants space there are a number of reasons to explain this. It may be related to family problems, a person's insecurities, or a fear of commitment. These are only a few reasons. How do you get your ex back when they want more space?

  1. Play hard to get in the beginning. This will show your ex that it was their loss, not yours. This will also help you maintain your sense of pride as well.

  2. Keep communication to a minimum. Short phone calls or text messages. Don't be overwhelming or overpowering in your presence. Give your ex just enough to let them know that you are still out there without crowding them. Short communications will also help keep the drama to a minimum. Keeping the communication to a minimum is like dangling a carrot in front of a horse.

  3. As time progresses your ex will come to miss you more and more. Their interest levels in you will grow as well. When this happens you will now have a chance to rekindle the relationship. Be careful to focus mostly on the good times. Avoid bringing up negative experiences and feelings. This will likely lead to an argument and will undo all that you have done up to this point.

  4. If you discover that your ex is not responding to you then this may be a sign that they really aren't interested in pursuing the relationship any further. It may also mean that they truly need more space and time. You should give it to them. If they do seem interested in you again then continue with your slow and subtle advances. The relationship will then progress accordingly.

  5. Learn to read your ex's signals. If you think they are leaning towards rekindling the romance then it may help for you to open up to them. Express your feelings without looking needy or desperate. Depending on how your ex presents themselves you may have to back off some and let the relationship progress naturally.
