Who isn’t trying his hardest to create the best impression he can with his resume?? Before you actually submit your resume, it would be a good idea to go online and check out a sample resume to know whether you are proceeding in the right direction with your resume. This would also serve as a valuable guide and make your work a lot easier!
In your quest for that perfect resume, the easiest way is to go to "Google" and type in "sample resume". This offers you abundant websites and all the information that you should know. They list the common mistakes that you might make in the course of writing your resume, of which some may seem obvious but others may prove to be really useful.
Everyone should be aware that spelling or grammatical errors on your resume may spell your doom!! This gives your employer the impression that you are careless and may question your ability as a good writer. Moreover, it may be taken for granted that you might not be a scrupulous and principled employee, since your resume itself contains basic mistakes. Errors of this kind are never to be found in a sample resume.
Your prospective employer is primarily interested in knowing your accomplishments and not merely your assigned job duties. Did the previous company you were in save some money through your implementation of a new billing system?
You should thus highlight your innovative spirit and your creative capabilities. Show them that you are ambitious enough to go that extra mile and think differently. You will find that a high-quality sample resume will list your accomplishments and not just your assignments and lay more importance on your capabilities. Leaving out important information is a mistake you cannot afford to make in this context. Make your job history skill-specific and clearly list out what you’ve learnt from each of your previous jobs; be it time-management, word application skills or even a stunt in office politics! Even though these jobs may not have been impressive, do not underestimate yourself in any way by leaving them out. The effect that this creates is unexpectedly good.
Generalizing your resume may prove a fatal mistake as it shows that you are on a spree applying for and wanting to get into any and every kind of job!! A good sample resume will be specific to the position and company you are applying for. It will thus prevent you from making the mistake of generalizing. We urge you to go ahead and do some research on the company so that you can be very specific in your resume.
Verbs, specifically "power verbs" as I call them, play a significant role in any quality sample resume. These are words such as "utilized", "created", "resolved" and "implemented" that speak of your accomplishments in glowing letters and also creates the winning impression of you in the minds of recruiters! These are humble laurels that you can’t be afraid to give yourself - since no one else will accolade you on your behalf!
In your expedition to create that perfect resume, you must look at and learn from a number of resumes. They will essentially act as your guiding light. Go on from one to the other as each one may be completely different from the next. All these sample resumes together will help you put together the perfect resume and bag that job you had your eyes on!!
