When it comes to working in the Gulf region, all countries of the GCC enjoy different strategic advantages and disadvantages. While Dubai might still be the most popular career destination for qualified expatriate population, other places like Oman have also been successful in attracting the foreign workers. Jobs in Oman are quite lucrative and one can aspire to find a job in various industries. Owing to its large oil reserves, the Sultanate of Oman relies heavily on the oil and gas industry for its economic well-being. However, other sectors in the region are also being developed fast and the economy is witnessing a diversification into other fields as well. Banking, manufacturing, agriculture, IT, construction etc are fast expanding and hiring expatriates for various positions. To work in Oman, you would need a sponsor in the country. Generally, your employer would second as your sponsor and would take care of all your immigration formalities. You will get to work in Oman on a fixed-term contract basis. The contract may be extended based on the requirements of the recruiter. At the end of the contract term, you will be given a handsome good-bye amount as a token of thanks from your recruiter.
The compensation package for jobs in Oman is usually very attractive. In fact, salary is the main puller that brings expatriates to Oman. As the environment is tax-free, no tax is levied on the personal income of workers. All that one earns is for one to keep. Thus, expatriates end up making huge savings working in Oman. Before you take up a job, try to network on online networking sites with people who are already working in Oman. This will give you a fair idea of what to expect while taking up a job in Oman.
