There is a lot of misconception and even deception out there surrounding one of the latest health and fitness crazes, the acai berry. First I am going to tell you what an acai berry really is and some of its physical properties. I will also share the results of some scientific studies. From there I will make what I believe is a logical conclusion based on what is supported by facts then let you decide if you think it is the best antioxidant supplement. This should help to clear up some of the confusion you may have.

Let’s start with what an acai berry is. It is a small, purplish berry that grows on the acai palm tree. They grow primarily in flood plains and swamps of Central and South America. The berries are small and similar in appearance to a grape. They grow in clusters of 700 to 900 berries and are harvested twice a year.

The local people have been eating acai berries for centuries and it makes up a large part of their normal diet. Recently they have also become very popular as an antioxidant dietary supplement and weight loss pill. There is good reason that they have become popular and that is our next topic.

The antioxidant level in acai berries have been tested to be higher than any other normal fruit or vegetable. According to OracValues.com, there are only 5 spices and grasses that are higher in antioxidants and none of them are practical food supplements. There is tons of research indicating that antioxidants are extremely beneficial to people and help them to be healthier. There is so much data supporting that antioxidants are a good thing, it can pretty much be taken as fact.

The next part of the equation is whether the human body can absorb the antioxidants from acai berries. According to a study done by a Texas A&M associate professor, they can. This was reported by ScienceDaily.com.

To me, it seems reasonable to say that since acai berries have the highest level of antioxidants and antioxidants are a good thing, it would be a good idea to use acai berry supplements to improve your health. Before you go out and buy acai berry supplements, I want to make sure you know one more thing about them.

Lots of acai berry websites are making claims that you can lose an insame amount of weight just by taking these supplements. I won’t say these claims are real or not, but you should understand what to expect. First, with more antioxidants in your body, you should feel better and have more energy. This means you will probably be more accurate and burn more calories which leads to weight loss. Acai berries are also high in fiber which helps regulate your body and potentially help you lose weight. The last way you may lose weight is that acai berries in come people cause a somewhat decreased appetite. These three things can very well add up to weight loss, but I don’t think anybody really believes you can lose 30 pounds a month just by taking a nutritional supplement and not making any other changes to your lifestyle. A lot of people refer to this as the acai berry scam, but I don’t really think that means it is a scam.

When you consider everything about acai berries, I think they are a great antioxidant supplement that should be part of a complete health and fitness lifestyle. Just make sure you don’t go into it with your eyes closed or unrealistic expectations and you won’t have any problems with an acai berry scam.
