If you are crazy about hard rock and metal music, you are bound to be fascinated by the electric guitars used by the rock stars. Read on to find out more about this glamorous instrument…
Features of electric guitars
Unlike other guitars, regular electric guitars are attached to amplifiers. This is because the electric guitars don't have sound hole. Without a sound hole, the player alone can hear the music.
Sometimes, there are electric guitars with small sound holes. This allows the music to be heard without the help of an amplifier. These electric guitars are known as semi-hollow body guitars. These guitars are perfect for blues, jazz and rock music. These guitars share some features with acoustic guitars. For example, some of the vibrations are formed at the top of the guitar.
Electric guitars have thinner strings than acoustic guitars. This makes them more suitable for slightly advanced musicians. So, if you opt for serious learning then its better to start with an acoustic guitar and then turn to the electric one.
Different types of electric guitars
You will find a wide range of electric guitars to choose from. There are various models and styles. You can choose from solid body electric guitars, telecasters, stratocasters, and guitars with jazzy arch tops. The wide range also includes signature models, guitars for the beginners, solid body electric guitars and metal guitars.
You can also opt for child size guitars for your young ones. These guitars have the appropriate body size so that a child can easily reach around the neck of the guitar. The thickness and the width of the neck are similar to an adult guitar. These child guitars have slightly smaller body to match the physique of a child. A ½ size guitar is suitable for kids of age 3-6 years and a ¾ size guitar is suitable for kids of 5-7 years. From age 8 onwards the children can try to play guitars meant for adults if they are physically capable of handling them.
Various packages that include accessories are available in the market. These packages are designed to meet your needs and you can opt for various accessories like tuners, gig bags, cables, straps, amps and instructional DVDs. There are several well known brands to choose from. You can also shop online for electric guitars. Several websites provide all the information and guidelines necessary to make the correct choice.
