Job stress is one of the major problems that the corporate world is facing today. Job stress is a chronic disease caused by conditions in the workplace that negatively affect an individual's performance and overall well-being of his body and mind. One or more of a host of physical and mental illnesses manifests job stress.
Job stress is caused by many reasons. One of the major reasons for job stress in the current scenario of a market affected by recession is job insecurity. Organizations are going through metamorphic changes under intense economic transformations. As companies are trying to live up to the competition to survive employees are becoming victims of reorganizations downsizing and cost cutting.
There is high demand for performance from employees and intense pressure on employees and workers. Increased workload and extremely long working hours leaves employees Job Stress, Job Seekers, Plastics Industry Jobs, Plastics Job in Indiaphysically and mentally drained.
Sometimes people find it difficult to adjust to the environment at workplaces. The inability to adapt to the hierarchy, communication patterns and dress codes and some time politics with in the organizations lead to stress.
Maladjustment with co workers and colleagues can also create pressure and prove detrimental to the productivity of employees.
The expansion of technology-computers, pagers, cell phones, fax machines and the Internet-has resulted in heightened expectations for productivity, speed and efficiency, increasing pressure on the individual worker to constantly operate at peak performance levels.
Workers working with heavy machinery are under constant stress to remain alert. In this case both the worker and their family members live under constant mental stress. There is also the constant pressure to keep up with technological breakthroughs and improvisations, forcing employees to learn new software all the times.
Personal and family problems also contribute to depression, unfocused attention, lack of motivation at workplace and stress.
When under severe stress, an individual fails to take clear-cut decisions, reevaluate and reassess the priorities and lifestyles. This can be described as a classic case of burnout. Burnouts often engage in reckless or risk-taking behaviors.
Stressed out employees cannot deliver high performance which is why it is important to reduce the level of stress within the workplace to increase the productivity of employees.
This can be done by Increasing Employees' Sense of Control and Participation in the Workplace, Increasing the Skill Levels of Employees, Increasing Levels of Social Support, Improving Physical Working Conditions, Healthy Use of Technology, and Maintaining Job Demands at Healthy Levels, Providing Job Security and Career Development, Providing Healthy Work Schedules.
It is important for organizations to hire the right candidates who suit their work environment and requirements otherwise they will end up exerting themselves too far and thus increasing job stress.
It also important for the job seekers to pick up a job that suits their personality and interest as the first step will play a deciding role in shaping their career and position in life. This can be possible only when job seekers and organizations are able to communicate their requirements to each other.
