When you walk into someone's home or into an office, one of the first things that you notice are the curtains or window decorations that are there. The curtains that you have hanging in your space say a lot about you and can make or break the look that you are going for.

There are many different types of window dressings to choose from. How you want to portray your room will be the deciding factor of what kind of curtain you end up choosing. Whether you are going for a soft and subtle look or something very daring there are certainly excellent choices available.

To create the look of a soft and flowing window dressing, try out some sheer curtains. If you get a beautiful rod with some fancy ends on them and hang it above the window and then drape a beautiful sheer scarf over it.

When you work with scarves it is important to not try to make them very symmetrical looking. Drape them loosely over the rod and let them flow where they do. This will create the fluid look that you want when trying to create the very soft and delicate look.

Another type of window dressing is the long vertical blinds. If you have a great floor to ceiling window in your home, try covering it with a set of vertical blinds. These blinds can opened and closed easily using a pulley system. You can pull the blinds closed and then move them into a position that will let light in but will still allow some privacy.

When you have vertical blinds hung you can dress them up easily by adding a great valance. Choose one that has beautiful colors that are found in your living room or choose an accent color that will really make your valance stand out.

Curtains can also help to keep your utility bills low during all seasons. If you choose to use curtains that are thicker and heavier, they can act as a burier between the weather outside and the temperature inside. By keeping the curtains closed, it will keep the heat of the summer outside or the cold of the winter outside and keep the inside of your house more comfortable.

Another great thing about curtains is that you can easily change your curtains and change the look of your room. If painting the room is too big of a project to undertake at the moment, why not just purchase some different curtains? This will provide you with a change in the appearance of your room and it will only take a small amount of time to accomplish it.

Curtains are wonderful expressions of your identity. You can go with a subtle look or a more outgoing one and the people that visit you will be able to see what your style is very easily. Replacing the curtains in your home can give your home a facelift very easily and for a small amount of money. Experiment with the curtains and window treatments in your home. You are sure to find one that you will fall in love with.
