For those that want to get a great look for any room, yet not spend a lot of money on window coverings, there are some simple things that you can do to make curtains for yourself. Plus, these will look just as great without spending all the money. Here are some simple tips that you can use to make curtains for yourself without spending hardly any money at all.
Tip #1: Give some love to the dollar store! There are so many great little stores out there that offer everything in their shop for a dollar. While you probably wouldn't find curtains here, you will find some great things that you can use to dress up plain old curtains at home, such as ivy strands, flowers, holiday ornaments, bows and more. You can easily find so many great garnishes for your curtains for your entire house under $20.
Tip #2: Sheer material is your wallet's friend. No matter what fabric store you head to, they will have some great sheer material that you can buy really cheap. The good thing is, you don't have to match a color exactly, instead, you can get a shade that is similar and it will match just fine. Now, sheer curtains won't completely keep the sun out, it will give you some privacy and allow you a cheap way to dress up any window.
Tip #3: Clearance racks are awesome for material. Hit your local craft shop and check out their clearance racks for material. Chances are that you will find some great material quickly that will fit your needs and wants for curtains in your house. Plus, it will save you some money from the start. So, this is a great way that you can easily find some beautiful material for cheap.
Tip #4: You don't have to be a master seamstress. All you need is a needle and thread to sew up the hems and some time to do it. It doesn't take much and it's actually really easy to do. You just need to measure your curtain rods so that you have plenty of room and then sew your hem. Curtains are extremely simple to make, and once you have the hems sewn, you can dress up the tops of them with the garnishes that you bought and make them beautiful.
Tip #5: Sew the seams strong. If you only have thinner thread, you want to make sure that you double the hems so that they don't break or give out. While curtains aren't heavy, they do tend to sag downward sometimes so you need to make sure that the hems are good and strong.
Tip #6: Dress up your curtains. When you have the hems done, and you have the curtains up and hanging, use those items that you purchased to dress them up. Wrap ivy strands around the tops of the curtain rods, dot flowers around the edges, be creative. It's so easy to dress up curtains and create a unique and fun look for any room in your house.
That's about all that there is to it. There are so many great ways that you can make curtains for your home, for any room in your house, that will create a unique and fun look so that you will be able to dress up your windows. And, the best part is that you can do it extremely cheap so you won't have to break your budget to create a whole new look in your home.
