Duvets are generally a form of a quilt or a soft blanket made with two pieces of cloth woven together with a soft filling usually with down feathers, polyester or cotton fillings. Duvet covers are used as a cover to protect and prolong the lifetime of duvets. Duvets have been used traditionally in almost all parts of the world as an essential ingredient of a perfectly completed bed set.
In the west duvets are referred to the quilt cover and not the duvet itself. With duvets being a part of an everyday commodity, it is essential to protect the duvet and clean it regularly. Here is where a duvet cover comes in.
Duvet cases - A duvet cover is a cover worn on the quilt which can be removed, changed and cleaned regularly, avoiding damage to the actual quilt. Duvet covers give you a choice of colour and design in your bedroom whenever you wish. Some duvet covers come with reverse designing having a different or a contrast colour or design on the reverse side.
Adding Beauty to your room. With the advancement in modern living, duvet covers come in a range of colours and designs suited to decorating needs for every person. These covers add that dash of exuberance to a room at anytime, without having to spend money and space on different duvets. Be it fresh pastel colours, trendy and modern art or flowery patterns, there are duvet covers available for every mood. It is best to invest a little time in assessing your room or even going through home decorating books to see what colour concepts you would like in your room. Buying two or three themed different duvet covers enables you to change the look of your room once in a way. Most duvet covers are available with their matching pillow covers to complete the look.
Types of Duvet cover Fabrics. A duvet cover may come in many types of fabric and textures like pure cotton, poly-cotton, silk etc. It is up to you to choose wisely the type of duvet cover you want and for what purpose. Usually a duvet cover made of velvet or flannel fabric is best suited to keep you warm in winters; for summers, duvet covers made of lighter fabric or even pure cotton gives a delightful freshness and a sound sleep.
Duvet covers for the allergy prone. A technological breakthrough in manufacturing fabrics and duvet covers are the Anti-allergic woven fabric used to make duvet covers. Dust mites which thrive in dust-collecting fibres and especially in the down filling of the duvets are a main cause of concern for those who are prone to allergies. It is best if you choose an allergen- blocking duvet cover to use with your down quilt. These Anti-Allergen duvet covers are woven tightly with unique patterns and weaves to block the allergy causing bacteria and particles. These covers are good for frequent washing and remain soft and fresh even after many uses.
Another safe duvet cover fabric for allergy sufferers are silk duvet covers. Silk is a natural fibre got from silk worms and is a little expensive when compared to other fabrics. Silk duvet covers give a luxurious look and feel to the bed; they keep warm in the winters and cool in the summers.
Choosing the Right Size for your duvet. Duvet covers come in the standard bed sizes ranging from the royal king size to single kids' bed size. It is important to know your bed or duvet size when you are going shopping for duvet covers.
