The world is facing an energy crisis today. Almost all our work depends on sources of lighting. But in our need to meet our ends, there are a lot of environmental imbalances taking place. To solve both these problems, we have been looking for eco-friendly lighting fixtures that can also save on a lot of energy at the same time. LED lighting is one such green lighting source that can meet our ever-growing need for energy efficiency. Earlier, we depended on incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. They were used in all applications like street lights, flashlights and table lamps. LED lighting fixtures are non-fluorescent lighting fixtures that offer all the advantages of fluorescent bulbs and do away with their disadvantages. It’s no surprise then that they are fast replacing fluorescent bulbs as the cost-effective lighting fixtures.
Though the invention of the incandescent bulb by Thomas Edison heralded a new beginning in the way we ‘see’ things, it was still a crude invention as compared to LED lighting. For example, if we use a 40 watt bulb it uses more energy than it produces. It can only convert about 5% of energy into visible light and the rest 95% is wasted as heat energy. In comparison, LED commercial lighting fixtures convert almost all energy directly into light energy and very little heat is generated.
Due to advancement in technology, LED lighting is able to produce the same amount of light energy as the compact fluorescent bulb. Unlike other sources of light, LED lighting is directional, that is, it concentrates its light in only one spot. As a result, you get light exactly where you need it. Thus, it is the best source of lighting for reading, cooking and other tasks.
Another benefit of LED lighting is that the light emitted by it is pleasing to the eye. It does not have the harsh light emitted by other fluorescent lights. Other light sources emit a yellowish light, while LED lighting emits a white light with a bluish tinge to it. This light is like daylight and closer to its color temperature. It is thus not harsh on the eyes and is effective in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder.
The government has also realized the importance of LED lighting. This lighting can reduce a lot of energy consumption and thus save a lot of money. That is why; it has become the government incentive lighting fixtures. The government is taking steps and making use of advanced technology and improvements to the manufacturing processes to make this lighting affordable to everyone.
Let us have a look at the benefits offered by LED lighting. For the common man, the obvious benefit is the savings and the comfort it provides to the eyes. Plus, it consumes only 2 to 10 watts of electricity. It has a long life of 60,000 bulb hours. It doesn’t produce much heat. It works with dimmer switches and sensor activated lights. It has instant on/off facility. It remains unaffected by cold weather. It does not fuse even if there are occasional increased power inputs. Since, it is a directional light, light is not wasted. The bulbs used are very durable.
So get set to light up your future with LED lighting!
