The power of really living the Slight Edge

As part of my series of articles and videos on The Slight Edge book, written by Jeff Olson, today I am going to discuss living the slight edge from Chapter eleven. I plan to discuss how by asking one powerful question enabled me to build my successful business.

Have you ever thought about what you want your life to mean? This is a question that I asked myself when I was starting my new internet education and marketing business with CarbonCopyPro. At the time I was experiencing quite a few challenges in my life. I was facing financial ruin due to a property development that turned into a disaster due to the financial recession, I was becoming disillusioned with my role as a business coach and I was starting to realise that I was more of an interested observer of my daughters childhood rather than an active participant due to my long working hours.

When I reflected on my life and asked myself what I wanted my life to mean I realised that I was drifting through life, and though there were some highlights I questioned myself if I would really be proud of what I had achieved during my life if I asked myself this question on my deathbed in years ahead. The reason for this was because I felt my life did not have meaning.

What is the purpose of my life? Is it simply to drift aimlessly through life or do I want to have a more purposeful life?

I came up with the following meaning for my life:

Live life to the fullest, constantly challenging myself to fulfil my potential, keeping people who are important to me close to me and integral to who and what I am, and help people to achieve their dreams.

Integral to this is to conquer challenges with dignity and integrity and view the challenges as opportunities to fulfil my potential.

What do you want to your life to mean?

The timing of this reflection couldn't have been more perfect as I was facing a number of personal challenges and I was contemplating starting a new business venture. When I had completed defining what I wanted my life to mean it invigorated my commitment to making a big change in my life. I knew if I stayed in my 9-5 day job I wouldn't be fulfilling my potential and I wouldn't be being true to myself as I wouldn't be working towards achieving the meaning of my life.

This enabled me to take control of my life. I knew only I could make the change, only I could set in place the small steps that are required to achieve the meaning of my life.

I made the changes in my life by taking advantage of the turnkey business opportunities provided by CarbonCopyPro and started my career as an internet entrepreneur. And I have never looked back.

I also made changes to all aspects of my life. I realised that to ensure my life has the meaning I want it to have I need to get all aspects of my life aligned. This included ensuring my relationships with the key people in my life are integral with everything I do, and that I was living a healthy lifestyle and are fulfilled spiritually.

I realised that all of these aspects, and my career, are interlinked. I cannot focus on improving only one of these aspects without understanding the flow on impact on the rest of the aspects of my life because they are all interlinked.

Now I am being true to myself, ensuring my life is delivering the meaning that I want it to. It has helped me change direction on my career and build a very successful internet business with CarbonCopyPro, which is allowing me to live the lifestyle that enables me to be an active part of my daughter's childhood. All due to asking myself one simple question, what do I want my life to mean?

Today I have discussed the power of asking myself one powerful question from Chapter eleven of the Slight Edge book, what do I want my life to mean? By asking this question I had to question everything I was doing, and where I wanted to go.

It helped me provide clarity on what is important to me and what I need to do to achieve it. I also became aware that I could not simply focus on my career as you need to ensure all aspects of your life are aligned, including your relationships, your health, finances and your spirituality.

Have a quick look at my video on this chapter where I provide you my reflections on what I had to do to align all aspects of my life, including reducing one of the aspects!
