If you look carefully when you are at shopping malls or office buildings. You'll notice that many of the trees are fake trees. These are many good reasons that property owners choose artificial trees over live trees. In the following I'll outline the top reasons for using artificial trees.

I'm going to do this list in Letterman style starting from the bottom:

Reason #10: Live plants need space to grown. In the limited confines of an interior space even slow growing plants will often outgrow the space for both the roots and branches. The branches can be pruned to limit growth but the roots continue to form.

Reason #9: Allergens. There are plenty of people that are allergic to either the scents of live trees or byproducts of plants and trees. While this is a greater concern with flowers and plants in sensitive environments like heath care facilities, this can be a serious issue. Fake Trees don't have these issues.

Reason #8: Flower Trees typically bloom once a year. Fake Flowering Trees are in Bloom all year round.

Reason #7: Live trees have unpredictable shapes. Artificial trees can take any shape needed. Corners and tight spaces can be carefully shaped into the space.

Reason #6: Watch out for falling branches. Live trees in commercial facilities are typically young trees. But even young trees lose branches. These branches become a liability issue. Artificial Trees don't lose their branches.

Reason #5: Water resources need to be place nearby live plants. Live trees need a fair amount of water. It's not realistic to water these with anything but a hose. Many commercial spaces don't plan for this. Fake Trees don't need water.

Reason #4: Live trees require a moderate amount of expertise to properly care for them in the confines of an interior space. Typically maintenance staff is not trained for this. Artificial Tree requires no special knowledge to maintain.

Reason #3: Young trees that are used in commercial spaces are usually sparse. It takes time for a live tree to grow a full and lush canopy.

Reason #2: Live trees are expensive. When you add the initial cost, the cost to plant, the cost for care and watering artificial trees cost less. The initial costs of live trees versus an artificial tree are similar. The maintenance becomes a significant part of the cost of live trees. Artificial Trees typically last 10 years or more in a commercial setting.

And the #1 reason Fake Trees are Better than live trees: Maintenance, Maintenance, and Maintenance. Live trees lose leaves and branches all the time and deciduous trees lose all their leaves every season. They also require constant pruning and watering to keep them in the confines of there space. Live trees also require root maintenance. Fake Trees require the same basic care as other decor in a commercial space. Artificial Trees require dusting and an occasional thorough cleaning. No specialty staff is required.
