Drivers who get easily stressed are not the best candidates for courier jobs. The job can be tough, and you could find yourself coming up against some challenging scenarios. How do you cope in a crisis? Can you keep a level head? Even the most relaxed drivers get stressed sometimes, so here’s a few techniques to help you keep your cool when working on courier jobs.
Breathe
Breathing techniques have been a long-time favourite of meditation gurus and yoga trainers. They are one of the most powerful techniques to calm you down when you feel the heat beginning to rise on courier jobs. Simply breathe in and out deeply and count to 10, allowing your whole body to relax, and by the time you’ve finished you may have completely forgotten what you were stressed about in the first place.
Take a Walk
Spending a long time crowded into your vehicle when on courier jobs isn’t healthy. You need to stretch your legs, and you need to do it regularly. Okay, this is easier said than done when you’re driving all day long. But make sure that you find time to stop fairly regularly, and when you get out of the vehicle take a five or 10-minute walk, even if it’s just around the service station. Walking is one of the best ways to de-stress, and even a few minutes will be beneficial to your sanity and put you in a better mood for the rest of the journey.
Eat
Eating serves a primal instinct, and when you feel like you are going to implode, satisfy another natural urge instead of screaming out loud. Feeling constantly hungry can make you edgy and increase your stress levels, so grab a bite to eat, preferably something you know you enjoy eating, and chill out. When on courier jobs, a simple thing like eating a tasty sandwich really can make the difference to your journey.
Be Quiet
Many drivers on courier jobs tend to listen to calm, relaxing music to keep them cool when faced with a stressful situation, such as when an awful driver pulls out in front of them unexpectedly. But another great calming influence can be found by turning the music off completely. Silence is bliss, and you may find that it is enough to get you through to the other side when the red mist descends.
Smile
Even if you really don’t feel like it, give yourself a big, long smile whenever you are starting to feel the pressure of the job. Even if you are feeling anything but happy inside, the act of smiling alone will allow you to relieve tension and put your worries to one side, which is great when you are feeling the blood begin to boil when on courier jobs.
And Relax…
Courier jobs can sometimes present challenges that make even the coolest of characters start to get stressed. When you feel the tension rising, take on any one of the above techniques and your journey will improve dramatically.
