The previous year has ended with a flourish when it comes to famous people who have confessed to an extramarital affair. Recently Jenny Sanford former wife to philandering South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was granted a divorce. Ms Sanford decided that enough was enough and she would not fade in the background as just another political wife who stood by as her husband's infidelities became public fodder.
Now all eyes are focused on Elin Nordgren. People want to know what her next move will be after her husband Tiger Woods confessed to transgressions. Since the story broke a few women have come forward to make the claim they were also intimate with Woods. Separating fact from fiction is going to be quite an adventure and one that the media is more than happy to undertake.
Extramarital affairs as we all know cross every type of relationship boundaries. Rich, poor, famous or obscure it happens with alarming frequency. According to the website Infidelity Facts, fifty seven percent of men and fifty four percent of women admitted to cheating on their significant other at least once during the relationship.
However to continually get away with it in most cases does not require people to cover for you like Mark Sanford had. Or a quasi network where only people of certain fame and means have access to. Sometimes it requires nothing more than the old bait and switch.
For example out of the clear blue the cheating partner accuses you of having an affair. They are quite adamant and tell you they have evidence that proves it. Of course to really make it work they fly into an emotional rage full of anger and indignation. They express disbelief that you would do something like that after all you have meant to them. And on and on it goes.
Naturally you are taken aback and deny it. Yet the more you deny it the more strongly they accuse you. Why? Because their gamble had the desired effect. You are on the defensive. Now they really turn up the volume. They add tears and beg you not to leave them. You promise you never will and do everything in your power to assure your significant other that you have been faithful and will remain as such. Mission accomplished.
