Penguin book publishers are one of the leading publishers of children's books across the world. They have operations across almost all the countries of Europe, Asia, America and Australia though they publish out of eight countries. They also publish adult books both fiction and non-fiction. Many of the books that Penguin makes are hard covered books though they also make paper backs. Penguin book publishers have their main operation in the US and the UK. However, they are reasonably large in Australia and Canada.

Penguin book publishers work off the following divisions: Penguin classics, Signet classics, Young readers, Audio books, eBooks and Complete Idiot's guides. All these divisions address different classes of books. Typically, they address current affairs, entertainment, mystery and suspense, health & beauty, parenting and many other topics. Of course, there are a number of romantic fictions that have been brought out by Penguin book publishers. They have also addressed the needs of the young readers specifically in their category. There are picture books, short reads, and novels for the young adults and fantasy books for them. All these add to the charm of the books published by Penguin.

Penguin works globally and addresses the requirements of a global audience. Their books have been authored by Chinese and Indians. There are also specifically tuned books for African-Americans. All these make the books published by Penguin globally acceptable. Penguin global is a specific division that works towards bringing about uniformity in their work. Specific books for the young readers like the Nancy Drew series are always widely read. There are also specific art and craft books too that makes the Penguin book publishers a sought after publisher for children and kids. Tuning their work specifically to the tastes and requirements of the teens is another major work that Penguin book publishers have carried out.

Making a humble beginning in 1838, Penguin book publishers grew from a publishing company in New York to what it is today after about 180 years of history. Putnam Sons which was the holding company had such people as Theodore Roosevelt, Saul Bellow and Arthur Miller, working for it in its growth. It had its own days of controversy when it published books like Lolita and Lady Chatterly's Lover. Taking over of New American Library and Dutton Books made it strong children's book publishers. Penguin book publishers with this became a major force to reckon in both Europe and US. By this time, they were under the Pearson group management.

Penguin released some of the children's heroes like Winny the Pooh, Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins for the children and the kids. All this ensured that the Penguin book publishers will hold sway over the masses of people from kids to the adults. In order to address the requirements of the teens, a new imprint, Alloy books was launched by Penguin book publishers in 2000.
