Overcoming insecurity is a challenge which many of us face. We can see the benefits of having high self esteem and high self worth quite clearly. We know that to build confidence and be comfortable in every way makes life a whole lot easier. Not only that, as you overcome insecurities and fears many new doors are opened and you’re your life expands.
As you overcome insecurity you can also stop measuring yourself against others. And this is really important to your own ability to relax and be comfortable amongst people, because inevitably you will find different people excel at different things. Everyone is unique and individual.
It doesn't matter if someone is thinner or fatter than you or if they have lesser or better qualifications than you, a lesser or better job than you. Your weight, age, job, qualifications and so on are all single elements which reflect a part of you as a person. They do not make you who you are; rather they are a result of what you feel and what you have chosen to focus upon in life. They reflect who you are as opposed to making you who you are.
When an insecure person looks at another person and thinks "If only I was as thin as her" they are in fact missing the real point. Insecurity tends to tie you up in knots and clouds the real picture. It can also breed negativity. Some people who recognize their insecurity are driven to tackle their emotional issues and build their confidence; they seek out a mentor of one description or another and vow to build up their self-esteem and self- worth. They look up to others and aspire to become similar to them.
Others however, do not respond to their insecurities so positively. They see somebody who they feel "threatened" by and immediately (either consciously or subconsciously) seek to discover if they have any weak points with which they can belittle them in their minds. As they find a way in which they can mentally pull the other person down they feel an associated and corresponding boost to their own position, albeit a rather transient one.
The other person is usually unaware of any of this "stuff" which is so much at the forefront of the insecure persons mind. Until of course you needle them once too often or drive them away completely. This does not help you in overcoming insecurity; rather it pulls your self-esteem down further as you feel rejected and disliked.
This coping strategy doesn't work long term as it doesn't actually build any feelings of confidence or self worth; you are still left constantly comparing yourself to others and you are always going to find something that the other person does better than, or is better at, than you. We all have different strengths and weaknesses; we are all unique individuals. If your perception of yourself is always build upon comparisons with others it will never be one which is stable and secure. You have to learn to build your sense of self from within, or else your self esteem will never grow and flourish.
We learn different coping strategies as children and hone them in as we grow up. Many of our attitudes and behaviors are based upon pure habit, and a feeling of insecurity is no exception. If you feel insecure and you are aware that your coping strategies are not improving your levels of self-esteem and self-worth then it is important to realize that they are not set in stone; you can change them for the better no matter your age or experiences. Confidence can be built so long as you start looking at yourself instead of those around you.
Hypnosis is a great help in the process of self exploration, discovery and change. Hypnosis allows access to your inner mind, your inner thoughts, worries, fears and behavior patterns. Therefore hypnosis is a facilitator of change; it makes change easier as hypnosis allows you to access both your conscious and your subconscious minds. Overcoming insecurity becomes a far easier task with the help of hypnosis.
