The breakdown of a marriage is one of the most emotionally difficult and stressful periods any person will face in their lifetime. Studies have shown that people going through a marriage breakdown experience several emotional stages, such as a denial stage, an anger stage and a mourning or grief stage. We all must go through some aspect of these stages, however, there comes a time when we must move forward and bring ourselves out of the abyss.
There are some ways to help speed up the process. Get it out of your system. It is important that you have a good support group such as friends and relatives with whom you can discuss and release your feelings. You might also consider the option of obtaining counselling for your children and yourself from a qualified social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist who is trained to help people deal with a marriage breakdown.
Don’t cut yourself off from people but avoid those, with negative attitudes, who will bring you down further. See positive friends that you enjoy being with and find some new friends who share your interests and who will help lift your spirits.
Start thinking about the good things in your life and work toward making them better. Stop dwelling on the past and don’t blame yourself. Avoid sad songs and movies that can bring you down and find things that are upbeat. This is a wonderful chance to reinvent yourself into the person you always wanted to be.
Try new experiences that are fun and make you happy. Find things that are funny, that make you laugh and help you look at the lighter side of divorce and life.
There are also many funny and unique divorce gifts out there, ranging from funny divorce t-shirts, mugs, cups and other items that will make you laugh and lift your spirits. There is still humour and fun out there and by expressing how you feel can generate positive and supportive reactions from complete strangers. If you have a friend or relative going through a divorce, a funny divorce t-shirt or other gift may be just the right medicine to lift their spirits and help them move positively toward the goal of recovery. No matter what, be happy, maintain a positive attitude and keep laughing, it is the best medicine. Try http://www.cafepress.com/divorcefunstuff for funny divorce gifts and t-shirts.
