We are all aware the rattlesnake bites could be deadly. At the least, they cause serious injuries to humans. Rattlesnakes are usually solitary and docile animals. They would rather turn away than engage possible adversaries. However, like other animals, they strike when cornered, threatened or provoked.

In California, rattlesnakes can be found just about anywhere. However, the California Poison Control Center noted that rattlesnakes account for only 800 of the 8,000 stated bites in the country. Hence, the prospect of rattlesnakes wandering anywhere in California, should not deter you from enjoying running, hiking or doing activities outdoors. You just need to use ordinary caution in order to avoid rattlesnake bites while enjoying the sun. If you want to hike, wear over-the-ankle boots and loose fitting pants to protect you from injuries caused by accidental rattlesnake bites. Also, walk along well-used trails and refrain from walking alone and wandering away from the trail.

On the other hand, to protect yourself from rattlesnakes while in the comfort of your own home try to remember that the best thing you can do to keep the rattlesnakes away from your garden, garage or inside your home is to put up a rattlesnake proof fence. Also, you should trim vegetation and brush near your fence. Similarly, make sure that you clear your area from piles of board, wood, rocks or anything that would make a damp, dark and cold space for rattlesnakes to hide.

If in the remote possibility that you get bitten by a rattlesnake. Do not panic and stay calm. For adults, the most serious effects of a rattlesnake bite is usually local tissue damage only which can be treated. It is a different story however for children who are obviously susceptible to more serious injuries. If you have been bitten by a rattlesnake, call 911 immediately. Calmly narrate what happened and the injury you suffered as well as the place where you got bit by the rattlesnake. If, in case you are able to drive, immediately go to your doctor for treatments but refrain from panicking. Driving at high speeds could get you into more serious trouble than a rattlesnake bite.
